I've thought about this for a while...
If I ever decided to start a second blog, what would it be?
On Sage Patch, I enjoy writing tributes to both my paternal and maternal Grandmas. I like to show off my latest vintage junkin' scores, snap photos of the constant changing garden and maybe throw in a recipe or two.
Like many, I feel I am an old soul; much older than my number age.
I'm attracted and distracted by a vintage Shawnee pig that conjures up strong memories of my Grandma Ann's kitchen. I feel a strong sense of pride when I stroll through my kitchen garden and often stop to wonder if I show it on my face, just like my Grandma Freda did.
Like both of them, I'm a collector. A collector of random, things of old...especially, if this old thing stirs wonderment and thoughts of what it's life was like back then; i.e. love the item, but love the history and the story behind it even more.
I think often of how hard working both of my Grandmas were. Totally different backgrounds, yet both had very strong work ethic, kept a spotless house, enjoyed doing for others, made their gardens a paradise and of course loved their grand-kids to no end. I also think of the sacrifices, significant losses and hardship that they both experienced throughout their lives.
Cutting to the chase.... not that long ago, I made a conscious purchase of a few old diaries belonging to an estate in Virginia. The sweet gal I bought them from knew how much I loved these and as a gift, posted me a third one from the same estate. (I thought it was ironic that the year she sent was my birth year).
Each diary is packed full of daily entries; clearly depicting her life in the country and as a farm wife on what appears to have been a small farm; The years 1951, 1956 and 1966.
Despite the fact that I've only read a few entries of each, it did not take long for me to immediately see the similarities in the attitude of this writer, to that of both of my Grandma's.
I'd love to summarize her profile; give you a little background on who she is and what I've gathered happened prior to the information in these diaries...but since I haven't even learned her name yet myself, let's just see what we uncover together...
So here it is, my second blog.
