July 30th and 31st 1951

July 30t, 1951
Monday

Mon at noon got in at 12, I got there about 2 or 3 minutes after. We went down street and got some stuff. Went to Penney's got goods for about 7 or 8 dresses. Such wonderful, fine material and purty too!
Got home about 4:30. Luther and D at VW was here a while but they left just before we came. Got me a cheap pair of red shoes with wedge heels. $2.99

Tuesday

Rev Lutz Birthday he will be 88 years old he preached at Patmos about 7 or 8 years.

July 31st was my Grandmother's birthday too.
Didn't do much but talk...was kinda tired and worn out.

Friday

Train hit Mike G's tractor and cut it in 1/2 like you would with a knife.
July almost gone!

Hot up in 90
I done up some odd jobs, then cut and made the green check gingham Mom gave me.
G was threshing all day at Coley H's.

Saturday

6:30, G gone to thresh wil finish the pickles and put away also the BB jelly too. Must clean thru house, water flowers, cleaned whole house. Sewed some too. Killed chicken was busy all day.
Had hard rain about 9 o'clock while we were up town rained in room window, but no one hurt.

Fifth Sunday, no preaching
Pastor Watson at Mass. having their SS picnic.
No rain. was home all day. Mr.s Miller came over in evening a while. He asleep.
didn't hear anything from the little dog, guess some one else got it.

Tuesday

Rainy and cloudy and wet
G gone to take old man's radio to shop.
I've been cleaning. Pie asleep. I ironed.
In pm went up to locker with R for meat.
G worked on rack of wagon.

Wednesday

Had a letter from E coming Monday, July 30th!
Some cloudiness some sun
Still wet and muddy. No threshing weather.
Harrisville women are serving dinner in Woodstock today #61
G painting wagon. I finished up 10 cans of pickles like Mat C's. Made 2 pans of soap. Watered all of the flowers. Cut soap out in evening.
G and I went for Blackberries got about 2 gallons.
9 o'clock time to go to bed for today!
I gathered pan of tomatoe had corn on cob for dinner.

July 26, 1951
Thursday

Hot, up to 90 on porch. Mrs Mayhew came this AM was here till evening. I made 9 pts berry jelly. Watered flowers, talked. G helped Coley H haul hay then to Bob's to help thresh. Will thresh up at Bob's again tomorrow.
Am afraid Fravels won't get to take their vacation Sunday.

Nice and HOT
Nancy and Shirley are here; didn't do anything much but clean and get something to eat.
No mail from E
H O T No rain!

*We went up to Fry's to see about a little pup this evening!

Sunday
The girls and I went up to Patmos. Ruth + Roy came for church at Harrisville..was here a little while.
Mabel and husband was here at Patmos first in 40 years! She is 53 now. Taken pictures of church and places, sure enjoyed being back. Girls stayed up.
Some hot.

Monday
Some hot today too..
I washed. Worked at my pickles at 2pm we had awful hard storm. Men made hay at Cecil's.
Was to go to Heisman's BUT....
Pie asleep.
Cleaned mess of beans for supper. Had our first corn tonite had real hard rain about 2pm and another one at about 7

G went back to Bill Jakes and got 3 gal of vinegar...such good. 25cents per

Wednesday

Hot. I taken Effie 3 roosters over ($3.25)
G was working on fence row. Then he went to S sale; about 1:30 it began to rain hard...still raining.

July 19, 1951
Thursday

Cloudy for more rain, real hot. Folks left for M.L. for dinner then to Hollar's in pm, be back for supper. Fixed beans for supper, we kill 2 roosters after mail comes.
Folks stayed (staid) at Hollar's for supper. Earl, Edith, Nan + I went up to the last show 'Prince of Peace', sure was good.
G went up to help Bob haul logs.
I pulled + cut grass.

Friday

Hot as 40!
We sat and talked all morning, they didn't get up till late. Got early dinner, now they are ready to go to Jake's; G hauling logs.
I will go up to M.L. for Nancy + Shirley

July 15th, 16th and 17th 1951

July 15, 1951 Sunday

Hot as 40!!! Went up here to church then eat dinner then we went up to town. G went to ball game, I went to M.L.'s, Fred came in too.
G and I went up to Mary's tavern to see about a dog. No Bull. Got in hard rain coming home...didn't rain here. This was an awful hard rain up the country, sure must of been hail in it.

July 16, 1951 Monday

Very hot after rain.
10am now, thru washing now. Pie asleep. G went to see about cutting oats...too wet.
I was over to R a little in evening, we went up to see about a little dog. Gone when we got up there.

July 17, 1951 Tuesday

Eggs #64
Warm again. Hard rain in evening. I made up the goods I got at Bowman's like the dotted dress. I like it very much...done all but buttonholes.

Mrs. Miller was over. Then in evening, she + kids brought little tub full of cucumbers over. Was here till nearly 9. I didn't get to meeting at Pearl's.
G and Poots cut oats at Coley H's.

Thursday

Rather hot, you ask me!
We had showers in afternoon. I ironed and patched all day; never saw so many holes. Pie slept nearby all day.
G got 19 bales hay in over at other farm then he went to F Royal for our side meat. Had it sliced, sure is nice.

Friday

Ruth B's 48th B-day today

Awful hot, kinda cloudy. I patched and sewed nearly all day while pie slept. G working on car. I cleared up in here and kitchen. Had such a real hard rain about 6:30 or 7 this eve. Sure wet now.
Choir practice up here tonite. 9 out with Rev.

July 14th, 1951
Saturday

Hot too. I cleaned and cleaned, washed windows, put up clean curtains, fixed more at the flowers on porch, cleaned mess beans, killed 2 roosters. Put boney pieces on for supper. Was on the move all day. G taken nap then went to clean fence row up along road. Pie slept.

July 9th, 10th and 11th 1951

July 9, 1951 Monday
Awful nice + HOT
I had a very big wash...


then I hoed some over in my garden. This evening I pinched off beans. Sure is lots of beetles.

G was up at Coley's hauling hay today.

Tuesday
Donald B is 19 today (and is as big as a house!)

I picked off about 2lbs of beans then I cleaned a kettle full for dinner on Wed. Then cleaned mess for us for supper. Killed 2 roosters for dinner; was busy all day.
G hauled hay for Coley.

July 11, 1951 Wednesday

Women up here to feed the Rotary men up town. Fried my chicken, got my stuff ready till 9:30. Only 7 of us there. Eve, Ima Jean, Beulah, Evelyn, Claudia, Polly, Alice, Kay.
48 ate dinner.
Had real hard showers about 4 after we got home. Then last it rained hard again...men working hay got wet too.

July 6th, 7th and 8th 1951


July 6, 1951 Friday

Very warm + Sunny...+ HOT!
Went to store for rick rack for aprons; finished them, pressed them and they are ready to go.

G plowing corn for last time at Bob's and his own.
Had steak, fried taters, corn + beans for supper. Had Bobbie pulling grass for me, got lots pulled.
Elsie sent Mom a pair of shoes, but too big I'm 'fraid.

Saturday

Jr and Charlotte have a new baby girl!
*Turned new bottle of gas on today

Very busy all day; killed 3 chickens for supper + Sunday. Baked cake, picked 2 messes of beans, 1 for Ruth and the other for the Thresh Hands and one for Supper.
Borden's came about 12 in pm. We made freezer cream.
G was away all day threshing; we went up to town, he was home too late to go to town with us.

July 8, 1951 Sunday

Got things ready for dinner, Borden's went along to Patmos...a good many out + had a nice good dinner afterward.
We came home by Bess's and Elsie's.
We taken old man's clothes over in evening.

SD at Colonial Beach for 4 days; a convention for nurses.

Tuesday

Warm and HOT. I worked at the aprons till noon then J went up to town, paid fire insurance + phone bill. Was up to ML's they were sewing. Bobbie here to mow yard G fixed 1 more place in spouting, but more places to fix yet.

Wednesday

4th OF JULY!
Cloudy, not very good picnic weather. Rained last nite again.
Cleared away and was very good for garden.
Was home all day sewing on aprons. Made 7 nice ones. 3 for the shop and 4 for Mr. S

July 5, 1951
Thursday

Warm again and windy. Bobbie and boys came at 9, we got *Mike and plowed this piece we cleaned yesterday for corn and beans. Then we plowed everythign over in teh other garden good. Have several bean poles to go in. Mowed and cleaned up along the barn. Since dinner, I've baked 2 cakes and washed up dishes. G was to Strasbury this AM, now plowing Cecil's corn he planted.
I planted 4 rows of Kentucky wonder beans and corn.

June 30th, July 1st and July 2nd 1951

Saturday

Very warm, rained hard again last nite and several showers today. G went up to town to pay taxes $65.00; didn't get back till 3:30...why?
I patched the clothes that needed mended cleaned up and watered flowers.
Washed cherry seeds.
About 4 of the men went up to Bob's to make hay
It's 8 now and they are not back yet!

July 1, 1951
Sunday

Nice day no rain since last nite. I went up here to chhurch; Rev Watson, cood preacher. Was home rest of the day.
G slept nearly all day. In evening the Fravels + Borden's came about work. Have harvesting and hay to make, and corn to plow.

July 2, 1951
Monday

Cloudy + rather cool, wet too. Will sew some on aprons and work some on grass. Made 2 and part of 3rd apron. Have to have green thread. Men cut wheat for C. Then went up and baled hay for Bob. Came back, baled for C then came over baled for G lots of stirring and going.
I killed 2 chickens, got a mess of beans.
C + Johnny S will eat supper here.
