February 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th 1951

February 25, 1951
Sunday

Wonderful nice day. E + I + G went up to Patmos to MJ’s for dinner. SD at home for few days.
Stopped at ML’s she is up some. Taken her house coat, fits fine.

Mrs Bell L died this evening while playing the piano for Church at Chapel. Was 72. 
A member of Chapel for 60 years.

February 26, 1951              *Calf
Monday

E + I messed at different things all day. I did cut my plaid gingham out over E’s dress in evening. I about made it!
Wonderful fine day!

G sent 7 shoats, 1 calf, 1 sheep buck to Winc today. Brought 2 calves back.
Calf weighed 150#, 65# shoats 590, 1 shoat 150#, buck 50# (Total $41.00)

February 27, 1951
Tuesday

Eggs 45

G went for eggs. I finished my dress. Cleaned some, done some old jobs. E got ready to go to Shen in PM. Luther + Dot came for her in evening. L + I went up to Garlan’s to sew on squares. Good many turned out to sew.
Had cookies.

Wednesday

Last day of Feb.
Mrs Bell gets buried today. Some cooler but sun out, bright.
I went to funeral. 
Ruth nursing at Cora M Hospital.

No mail much.

 G went to Edinburgh for cartons…they are $8.00 for 500 now, use to be $6.25!

February 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th 1951

Wednesday

Both black gilts had pigs last nite…each had 10. Weather kinda rainy + heavy.
G gone for eggs and we messed around. In evening E + I went up to see ML she is feeling some better. Some colder windy now too.

Little Johnny lost his mind today at Stock sale is in Winc now.

February 22, 1951
Thursday
George Washington would be 219 years old today.

Very nice day. Sun. Pretty + bright.
I baked coconut cake, cleaned some. E ironed some, washed some in PM Luther + Dot came over.

1 hog has 7 now, the other has 9

February 23, 1951
Friday

Both hogs have 7 each. Nice weather. E + I was counting on getting lots done and here come Mrs. S, such a noise! Arms full of 2 dresses, 2 slips, 1 dress to fix for her.

In evening I cut and put new satin lining in E’s fur coat got nearly done till 11 o’clock fixed her dress too.

Saturday

Fine weather. Taken E to Strasburg to Stella’s to get hair fixed. Came back on bus. I sewed on ML’s house coat, got it done till Sunday. 

G shelled corn from crib.

Elsie taken her first plane ride today from D to Charlotte= 5 hours.
Nice day.
We sacked up grain to go to mill when G came back we worked up at barn in the mud.
…and Boy! I mean mud too!

Went up to town to see ML she is feeling some better.

Sunday

Very lovely day. No preaching any where today so we all home. 
C was over a little. Cats asleep now too.

Monday

Raining all day sure is muddy now. G already has taken nap. I done up the work and fixed some at hogs.

Emma Jean + Sissy have bad colds and ear aches

Eggs 44
Foggy, rainy + kinda bad. I washed some out. Done some odd jobs.
In evening I went to TB for Elsie, she came on bus from NC

Was busy all day
Washed, ironed, put clothes away, cleaned, worked out some. Emma Jean come over.

Valentines Day 1951

AID met at Kat's 30 there including children and visitors. Fine good dinner.

Got quilt done. Worked on more squares for another one.

O so muddy!

Grace M got her first permanent this week for her trip to Detroit.

Thursday


Cloudy and misty all day and so muddy up around barn. G went for meat and more eggs. We cleaned 7 chickens this AM. I finished up then worked some eggs.

Isabel called ML has virus, pneumonia has Dr. G; feels some better this week.

Very good day, little cloudy but cleared off in PM.
I worked around all day. At 10 o'clock  J+E called in about Bob E being dead, she is taking plane on Sat PM from NC
G came about 12

Real cold I tell you. G had to load up to cold to put eggs out. I worked on J's coat, sent it back today.
In evening I went to TB with ImaJean + Eve to World day of prayer at Methodist Church.
Awful cold!

Got up late, done all the work and ironed till noon. G didn't get up till 11:30 then had to take car to garage to have radiator fixed. Didn't get home till 7. We ate Supper then slept.

Very nice day some cloudiness. I went up to Patmos to Church. Then to MJ's for dinner in PM. She + I went in, ML is sick with a bad cold + tightness on her chest. Said she felt some better.
Got supper and then slept like pigs!

Monday

Abe + Sid's B day. Both are dead now. Was a beautiful day. I worked out in yard and on porch till noon. In PM Marge _ I walked up to see Bess F.
G went up to see Eagle about Harvey's beef and then to garage.

Sun was out Bright. I had very big wash. Emma Jean + Sissy was over for cookies. G taken nap. Then went to mill. I defrosted Refri.
Box came from E. I worked some on J's coat.

February 6, 1951
Tuesday


Weather real muddy not so very cold. I sewed all day on J's coat. G gone for eggs .39
In evening I baked gingerbread. Got ready for the dinner up town.

February 7, 1951
Wednesday


Started to rain in nite. Rained hard all morning then turning to snow, too wet to lay. Creek got up in no time. I fixed taters, cold slaw, got ready to leave here at 15 of 10.

Fed 56 today...good dinner. ML in bed, real bad cold. Esther has bad cold and Rose not feeling very good. Turned colder as day went on in evening it had dropped 29 degrees. Was 42 in AM, in PM was 14. Wind so strong.

Had twin lambs this AM; 1 dead, the other in the house.

*Letter from E; terrible cold out there too.

Awful cold I tell you! Just about zero and so windy, really is wild. I sewed some and worked at odd jobs.

Wet, more wet. Rained nearly all day; snow is leaving and creek is up big!
G was out for eggs and then worked more eggs.
Egg 41 today
I quilted nearly all day, got it all done but border. Will try and finish it tomorrow. Had letter from SD, she + Ritchie have moved to an apt will cook their own meals now.

Sun was out, nice and brite all day!

Ground hog day
Pearlie b-day. Fred C 60 today

I quilted and cleaned some. Watered flowers. Was bad under foot in the evening.
I went along with Mabel and Marvin up to the housewarming for Earl and Ana. About 60 there. Got them a nice coffee table from all the women up here.
Our coldest nite.

Bill and Daisy house burnt between 1-2 o'clock, got everything out.

Still awful cold. About 3 above this AM. Awful cold everywhere, icy too. G said it was awful getting around down there. He was wore out. I got quilt done and taken out of the frames. Several days over 1 weeks to get it done. Real purty I think.

Sun out. Brite, but like Ches says, was scandlish cold.
I went up here to Church. Pastor Alvin that married Eva jean preached. He was good. May call him.
In evening we went down to M's got us some Cheeseburgers. Came home at 8, listened to the radio til 11.
