November 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th 1951 + Old Fashioned Recipe Pear Honey

November 1, 1951

Much cooler. Raining started last night. Got up at 4.
E + Jim left at 5 for home in rain. Had a car full. Our first rain for some time.
Stopped raining about 8am, but was windy + cool and cloudy all day.
I ironed + patched some holes and square holes too.
G went for feed. 3rd sack

November 2, 1951
Friday
*Much colder

Roy B Bday, Bess, Frances and Barbaratta too.

Peepies 4 weeks old today (weigh 1#). Was awful cold and windy all day and rained off and on all day.
We penned the two shoats up. I patched and cut some more rags. Put flowers in cellar. Cleaned up stairs, carried more flowers up. Mom peeled pears to can. Was busy all day.

Saturday
*SNOW*

Our first snow! Windy and cold as 40! Radio man said it was 7 below zero in Michigan. G + H left for eggs.

I baked a Cherry pie. 


Got card from E, they had had weather all day, snow + ice on Mtn's only. A little Sun. They were making good time was at Toledo at 4:30, no trouble so far.

Sunday

20 above this AM...some change!
Very cold day, was home all day. F M + H came about noon. after noon Lena came, then Marietta later.
H + G went to see about turkeys. The sun was out, pretty but was still pretty snappy.
Ruth working 3 to 11.

MJ picked a bu of green beans last night (Nov 3rd)

Monday

A very beautiful day. I had a big wash 7 sheets 2 bed spreads 8 pillow cases and tea towels.
Mom pealed pears to can; have about 19 cans.
We made and canned Pear Honey.

*Pear Honey*An Old Fashioned Favorite that was often brought as hostess gifts during the holiday seasons when you went out visiting friends. 

People have been quoted as saying 'You will think your bees made this'


6#'s of pears
6#'s of sugar
1 can of crushed pineapple

Boil for one hour; put pineapple in and boil for 1/2 hour longer.Can in hot jars and seal.
